joana alarcão

joana graduated from the University of Coimbra in 2017. during

her academic course, she spent a year in Chile where she actively

participated in the activities promoted by the Pontificia

Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, including a studio in Ciudad

Abierta and the Travesía journey. from then on she developed an

interest in culture and identity, reflecting on the role of

architecture and the architect in preserving and developing the

value and character of places. these thoughts, that originated in

Chile, lead to a master dissertation intituled: “Cultural identity and

the value of place in the Chilean context: the case of Pinohuacho.”

now, she keeps on trying to learn more about other cultures

reflecting on the role of the architect, also her role, towards it.
